Really good independent bookshops that are well stocked and have knowledgeable staff are few and far between in this day and age (no “back in my day” rants, promise!), but we’re lucky in Leek to have Picture Book right on our doorstep. Specialising in local history and bird books, they also have a pretty good range of second hand books as well as all the usual suspects you might wish to find in such a shop.
They have been open an impressive 28 years, and with 2 floors of books galore you’re likely to find what you were looking for and maybe a few little gems you weren’t looking for but could give a try anyway: expand the mind all that! Owner Bruce who has been there since the beginning claims they can get hold of almost any book in the world, and that’s a pretty impressive claim if you ask us, but don’t just take our word for it…They sell online through Amazon, but if you go straight to them you save 10% and there’s no waiting by the postbox for a parcel to arrive! Now is that a win-win situation or what!

What this doesn’t mention is the absolutely fantastic range of cards quite unlike anyone else’s in town. If I go in to buy one I come out with a handful as they’re hard to resist. Definitely a gem…
