AND Hebden Bridge market second in best small open market for the whole of the UK.  A brilliant achievement all round.

The Brighouse Totally Locally Market has been announced as the winner of the ‘Best Small Speciality Market’ award by the National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA).

Despite a record number of entries this year, the Brighouse Totally Locally Market fought off competition from across the UK to earn its number one placing.

Over the course of the past twelve months, three Totally Locally Markets have been held in Brighouse culminating in the Christmas extravaganza at the end of November.

Each time the markets have grown in size, with more of the town dedicating space to stallholders and numbers increasing to 60 at the most recent Christmas market.  The aim of the markets has been to raise awareness of and celebrate the fabulous range of food and produce available in and around Calderdale.

John Walker, Markets Manager, Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council, who was responsible for nominating the market commented: “The Totally Locally Brighouse Market is the perfect example of how we can work with other community groups to hold events for the benefit of the whole community.  By celebrating what we have on our doorstep we are not just enjoying our own regionally produced goods and services but we are helping to increase footfall into our towns.”

Lesley Adams of Simply Flowers in Brighouse, one of the Totally Locally Market organisers comments: “The markets have received so much support and this award is a thank you to all those involved for the hard work and effort that has helped to make the events such a success.”

Chris Sands, from the Totally Locally campaign said: “We have been amazed by the support for Totally Locally and it is a joy to see that the Brighouse Market has been worthy of such merit.  The team that organises the markets clearly demonstrates what can be achieved when the community comes together to celebrate what they have on their own doorstep.  We are really proud of the difference that Totally Locally and its supporters have made to Brighouse and imagine that with such a team of people behind it the town will go from strength to strength.”
