THE HALIFAX WINE COMPANY

HIDDEN GEM LOCATION – HALIFAX

Look, we all know that certain shops make you a bit nervous about going in, thinking “what if I look an idiot, what if they try to sell me something extortionate?”. Two of the biggest culprits? – Art Galleries & Wine Shops.

So put on your bravest face, because Totally Locally urges you to step over the threshold of The Halifax Wine Company. You are guaranteed to come out smiling with a VERY different view of the wine trade.

This is everything that Totally Locally bangs on about. Great wine from around the world, surprisingly low prices but most of all enthusiastic, friendly and plain lovely advice from owner Andy Paterson.

With a love of wine (!) which reaches it’s peak at the Portugese variety, Andy has worked in the industry for 35 years, and really knows his stuff. He’s also big on re-investing his earnings in the town, and although he’s yet to come up with a Pinot grown on the slopes of Shibden Valley, he strives to use as many local suppliers as possible.

Best of all when TL went there, Andy recommended an stunning Sauvignion at a measly £5.95, that would give any of the big supermarkets a run for their money. Seriously – this quality of wine would cost you loads more at the Big T.

So – aged in Yorkshire Stone for 9 years, this subtle yet complex shop shows well with a multitude of mouth-filling styles.
Ripe berry, vanilla and cardboard box aromas.  There’s surely be no better way to while away an hour or so than The Halifax Wine Company. And they really don’t mind you browsing or just popping in to chat.

“(Halifax Wine Company has) Exciting, wide-ranging and award winning list, at keen prices. Portugal (fantastic list of Madeiras), Spain and Italy are the strong points but there is plenty from the New World too.” – Oz Clarke
