Suma Wholefoods – Elland

Multi-award winning, ethical, owned by everyone who works there, brilliant product and residing in Calderdale – what’s not to like about Suma?!

From the humble origins of a little shop in Leeds in 1975 (started by Reg Taylor) to a 150 strong co-operative in Elland today. Suma has gone from strength to strength, showing how great people with a good work ethic and an eye on doing good can prosper in these cynical times of corporate giants.

The company works on a basis of one man, one vote and equal pay for all, but it’s what they sell that makes Suma special.

Food produced and sold is exclusively vegetarian or vegan, and mighty tasty (and healthy!) too.

Special attention is paid to make packaging with as low impact on the environment as possible, and everything is scrutinised for it’s ethical credentials.
The co-operative also supports many local and international charities.

So hurray for Suma, flying the flag for alternative ways of working, great food and a passion for their planet and community
